1985 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham For sale to a loving owner who wishes to restore it (it needs work). This car was originally owned and driven by a Virgina resident, so for most of its life it was spared the horrors of Vermont winters with all their road salt. THEN I BOUGHT IT. Although I immediately fell in love with the car and took the best care of it that I could, I was broke and it was the only transportation I had. Therefor I had to drive it in the winter, and I even hauled firewood in the trunk sometimes (an embarrasment to such a classy car). Finally, the wheelwells rusted through and the fuel line sprung a leak. I lacked the money to repair it, and I had just gotten locked into paying for my wife's leased vehicle, so the Cadi sat in the driveway for two years, rusting a bit more. In my spare time, I occasionally took it out for a spin around the block just to keep the moving parts from freezing up. Then the brake master cylinder (or the line near it) failed, and I gave up on my dreams of restoring it. I am now forced to part with the car, and I hope that it goes to someone who will have the time and money to restore it to its former glory. What's good about the car: The engine runs perfectly, and I have never had a problem with it. It is the 4.1L V-8, smaller of the Cadi engines, and it gets about 25mpg when the fuel line is not leaking. The steering and transmission are in good shape. The suspension and tires are OK. What needs work: The fuel line and brake line (or master cylinder) are leaking badly, probably from corrosion. There is considerable rust to the underbody and a few parts of the upper where the paint is starting to crack. In its current condition it probably would not pass inspection, but in my opinion, however, the frame is still solid. I did an ameteur job of patching rust holes in the rear wheelwells with fiberglass just so rain and slush wouldn't splash up into the back seat or trunk. The cruise control and air conditioning stopped working some time before I bought it. The rear speakers cracked with age and I removed them - but front speakers work. I pulled out the stereo I had been using to put it in another car, and the orinal cassette player was broken when I got it. The sensor for the level ride system has failed, and I disconnected the air pump for the gas shocks in back - it used to give a real smooth ride, but it got stuck in the always on position and jacked up the back end higher then it should have been so I disabled it. The velvet upholstery still looks nice except for the headliner which is peeling off the ceiling. The battery was totally dead, and I removed it. To see the car, email me. It is located in northern Vermont, and due to its current condition a test drive is not possible. You will need to tow it. Note: I put in a bogus VIN since I didn't have it with me when I typed the ad. I'll give you the real one if you ask.
